Vinyasa literally means to synchronize movement and breath. Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is often referred to as flow yoga. This style of yoga has developed out of Ashtanga yoga.
Like all styles of yoga, there are both mental and physical benefits. Physically, you sweat toxins and re-energizes your body. Build strength, improve your core and therefore posture and work on flexibility. Mentally, the synchronized breathing relaxes your mind as well as working as a guide for your physical practice. Yoga is very meditative and can give you the opportunity to take time out for yourself.
These classes are absolutely suitable for beginners as well as those wanting to challenge themselves. Listen to your body and take the class at a pace that suits you, resting when required.
Vinyasa yoga involves a lot of movement, so wear something you are comfortable moving from one pose to another. You will likely be working up a sweat so wear something breathable.
